Westgarth 3rds Stage Remarkable Baseball Win
Westgarth Baseball Club has had many wins in its proud 67 year history but few could have been more remarkable than the victory achieved by the 3rds team against Monash University on Saturday.
On a bitterly cold afternoon at Merri Park in Northcote the Wesgarth team took to the plate for one last time trying to come back from a 14-9 deficit. The young Monash southpaw pitcher who had started the game and deserved the victory quickly retired the lead-off batter. What is tee ball?
Tee Ball is a modified version of baseball. The major modifications include no pitching, hitting the ball off a tee of adjustable height, a reduced time of play (usually an hour), and competing on a diamond which is only two-thirds of the senior size. It also incorporates an important rule on the length of an inning to prevent a stronger team monopolising the batting during a game.
The games provide a lot of fun, opportunity for rapid improvement in ball skills, hand-eye coordination and general confidence, as well as one hour of fast moving excitement during the game itself.
The Westgarth tee ball program places an emphasis on safe play, having fun and learning new skills. As participants learn more skills we hope to run longer mini games each week. Our program is suitable for children aged 6 to 10 years.
